IN-DEPTH WORLD GUIDE
IN-DEPTH WORLD GUIDE
And at the edges of the map, it stated simply: Here Be Monsters.
--- THE SAFEZONE
The Safezone is something of a misnomer, because while the area is slightly calmer than its surrounding, the Safezone is certainly not safe. It consists of about four square miles of broken down buildings and rubble, looking much like a massive natural disaster struck and destroyed whatever structures had once stood there.
What pieces of buildings that remain seem to have come from countless cultures with little rhyme or reason to their placement. Very few buildings are still standing, and those that remain are so unstable that using them as shelter is an incredibly risky idea. Most buildings are nothing but piles of wood and stone. While the cultures and designs of the building vary, they’re all relatively simple; two and three stories high at the most, much like what would be found in a small town. Remnants of a few commercial buildings can be recognized amongst the rubble--an empty gas station tank here, a grocery store cart there--but for the most part, the buildings seem to have been residential.
Any standing structures that are safe to live in must be created by characters, which might be easier said than done.

The City Map can be found [HERE], and some notable features in and around the city are listed below:
CAVES
On the north side of the city there are craggy cliffs cut into some small hills, and at the base of one of them is the opening to a cave system. It’s a traditional limestone cave, a mix of wet and dry elements, and the first few rooms are large enough to explore while walking. A few tight squeezes (the passages are narrow, but tall enough to stand in) and then two spectacular rooms can be found, covered in stalagmites and stalactites and natural formations.
Venturing farther into the cave is a challenge and becomes more and more dangerous very quickly, featuring deep pits, flooded rooms, unstable floors and ceilings, bad air, and any number of other hazards. Exploration past the beautiful rooms requires mod permission, just so we can give you an idea of what you’ll find and work out details.

THE RIVER
The river is entirely normal at one end, about thirty feet across and ten feet deep, but rapidly changes in shape. Narrowing to only ten feet across at the widest, the river turns into rapids and the bottom is impossible to find. Characters should do their best to stay out of the river at this point, though upstream where it’s wider it’s safe enough to collect drinking water and take the occasional dip.

THE OCEAN
The ocean is deep blue, and while the first fifty feet or so can be waded in after that point it drops off sharply to several hundred feet in depth, only getting deeper the further out one goes. Venturing too far out, whether by swimming, boat, or flight, runs the risk of getting caught in a time loop just as in the wastelands.

THE SHORELINE
The beach is rocky and unkempt, and the waves can vary from nonexistent to tumultuous. There are a few areas of relatively smooth sand to be found with some searching. On the far north side of the city, a cliff face extends out into the ocean, and when the tide is out the mouths of underwater caves can be see cut into the rocks.

THE MEMORIAL TREE
One of the few recognizable things to show up, somehow, is a familiar tree that many in the city have visited. Enormous and old, it has countless names carved into the bark, and stands as a memorial to all those who have come and gone from Adstringendum.
CLIMATE & THE CELESTIAL BODIES
The sky is pale. This isn't because of cold - there's just less pollution here, and thus less coloration. It will still change colors in the evening, which speaks of past industrialization, but there's nothing that originally belonged in the city that supports this - no cars, no factories, nothing putting out pollution or contaminants. There are stars and clouds and a sun. The stars, though, don't look the same, since they're viewed from a different place in the galaxy. The climate is Continental Climate what you would find in the Midwest USA, which means Adstringendum has full seasons.
Two moons orbit the planet, the white one rising around 6 pm and setting around 2 am, and the larger, slightly-green moon rises around 8:30 pm and goes down around 7:45 am. The moons have names, but none of the residents in the city know this. The white moon has a lunar cycle of 43 days, while the green one takes 37 days to go through its cycle.
SUPPLIES
Supplies are a challenge. There is stuff to be found amidst the rubble, but finding it is easier said than done and getting to it is even more difficult. Clothes can be found, for the most part, but not a lot of it; it’s safe to assume each character can find enough to amass a few changes of clothes, but things like winter coats, good boots, swimsuits, and the like can be a lot more difficult to come across. Food is limited, and getting enough to eat can be a challenge unless characters hunt or grow their own food.
AMENITIES
Right now, there are no options for electricity, or for running water, until created by characters.
WILDLIFE
If your character is in the Safezone, there aren't a great many animals. Hellcats and killer rabbits are the most commonly seen, and might actually have a sixth sense that calls them to new arrivals. Few things are left that are safe or peaceful; most that wander are dangerous and hungry. There are, however, a few fruit cows wandering around. They can be used for milk and meat, but there aren't a lot of them. Larger and more dangerous monsters have recently begun to wander farther into the safezone.
--- THE WASTELANDS
The wastelands lie to the west and south of the safezone and consist of a mix of several types of terrain, from wooded areas to dry spans of desert. They can switch from one type of terrain to another as quickly as if there was an imaginary line drawn on the ground. The farther one travels into the wastelands the more likely they are to be caught in a time loops, and their surrounding become more and more unstable. For characters that manage to make it far enough, they may be able to catch a glimpse of a familiar volcano…
