IN-DEPTH DEATH GUIDE

IN-DEPTH DEATH GUIDE
Shall we call it Death Notes?

In such a dangerous city with such assorted characters, deadly creatures, and crumbling buildings, it is inevitable someone will get hurt, even killed. This guide provides a deeper look into the process of character death.

Please remember character death is up to the choice of the player. You cannot kill another character without that character's player's approval.

All character deaths must be approved by a moderator at least 48 hours in advance. This is more for records purposes and to be sure that death is not used too flippantly (or frequently, in some cases), and not because we want to moderate your creativity on death. If you have a plan to kill off your character, please contact us (either by email or PM) with the following information:

  • Character who will die.
  • Cause of death.
  • Date of death.
  • Duration the character will be gone from Adstringéndum (can be an approximation).
  • What the character will lose upon returning to life (the death cost).
  • A short explanation of why this cost is important/how it will affect the character

  • ---WHAT HAPPENS

Your character will be sent back here, to the city of Adstringéndum, since the Spirit World has been compressed just as was the "real" world. However, his or her soul will enter their body as is, so they may be in a lot of pain when they come back, depending on how they died.

    BODY DAMAGE
While in most cases a person will return to their body in the same condition their body was left (so if an arm was broken, their arm would still be broken upon returning to life), there are some situations where it wouldn't be possible. In a situation where a person is completely destroyed or killed in a way that returning back to life in their current would kill them immediately in normal circumstances, their body will be restored in the following ways: a body that is completely destroyed (as in there's nothing left) would be fully restored.

A body that has multiple injuries, but is still otherwise intact, would have all life-threatening injuries healed, but maintain any non-threatening injuries. For example, if someone had their arms broken and their head cut off, upon returning to life, their head would be reattached and without injury, but their arms would still be broken.

Please note the amount of pain a character feels upon returning back to life depends on their current injuries.

If there is any doubt about what condition a body would return in, ask a mod!

    COST OF DEATH
When a character dies, they enter the same realm of the Animus. As the Animus don't like people invading their personal space, they'll take something away from the character-- a memory (canon or ingame-canon), a possession, an ability, etc.-- before sending them back to Adstringendum. In a sense, they're the gate-keeper, the ferryman, and to return to life, you must pay a toll. What the character loses is entirely up to the player.

    RETURNING
Characters will return to where their body is located. So if they died in the city but were moved back to their house, they would wake up in their house.

What if my body was left under a collapsed building? Or if I was buried? Or scattered across the city?

In these following situations or any similar issue, the body would return to the location they were killed at provided it is stable or the nearest safe location. We define safe as a location that would not immediately kill or injure a person returning back to life. Stable ground, in short. So a body that was left under a collapsed building would appear outside of the rubble on stable ground, a body scattered across the city would return to somewhere near the area they were killed, someone buried would appear above their grave, and so on.

If there are any questions about where a character would appear at, please ask a mod.

    DURATION
The length of time it takes a body to come back to life is solely up to the decision of the player. This can be anywhere from a few hours to a few days to even weeks. However, the character must eventually return back to life. If you do not wish to return a character back to life, you must drop that character.

    ---DEATH, THE SEQUEL

If you die again (a second or third time), your character would lose a second thing on top of the first thing they lost. The Animus might also be very displeased at someone repeatedly entering their realm and demand a greater price.

For any deaths beyond three, please speak to a moderator to arrange a meeting with the Animus.

    APPING PREVIOUSLY-KILLED (& DROPPED) CHARACTERS

As new characters have no knowledge of arriving in Adstringéndum, a character that was previously killed and returning under a new player pays the price with their full memories of Adstringéndum. In other words, they come in without memories of their previous time here.

    ---NPC DEATH

Non Playable Characters (NPCs) fall under the same rules as Playable Characters.

    ---REGAINING LOSSES

Currently there is no way to regain what is lost, so long as the character remains in Adstringendum, without reset, and with the same player. Once the Animus take it from you, it is gone for good.

If you have any additional questions, please ask and we will get them answered as soon as possible!
