Comment/Complaints

In light of recent events, it has come to our attention that Adstringendum requires some restructuring. The staff are doing their best to address these issues and adapt for the changing times, the growth of this comm, and the new issues that have come up, but thinking ahead can only account for so much, and the staff's ideas will only please so many.

So to best serve the needs of the comm, and to best address complaints early, we've decided to create this comments/suggestions/complaints post to manage complaints and ideas which players and potential players may have with the community. Think of it as a "How's My Driving" for Adstring as a whole. Topics you might bring up here include (but are not restricted to): application process, mod/staff duties, complaints about mod/staff members (on staff-based issues; character-based complaints still belong in relevent mun's HMD post), event issues, etc. We will be sure to reply to every note, and complaints and suggestions will be reviewed and taken into serious consideration.

Hey, there! This.. probably doesn't belong here at all, but I was wondering if there was any way at all that we could petition to change canon update requests. I realize that the current way stops people with ongoing canons from "abusing" the ability to canon update (you definitely wouldn't want Homestuck kids updating every week after every new update, of course), but I think the current system could punish people with dynamic canons who stay in Adstring for a while.

Just as an example! I waited six months with Johannes and a new book came out with a plethora of amazing new information and adventures with him, so I decided to canon update -- but when I did, losing the CR with him just utterly destroyed the muse for me. He was a hard character to establish in the first place, and doing that again was nigh impossible.

Again, this is just a suggestion. I know other games (Paradisa, Poly, Siren's Pull, Asgard, etc) allow you to canon update and still retain memories of the game, and I think it might be more friendly for people with changing canons that plan on sticking around long-term. I know Break suffered from this, too, and Lucifer, too. Limitations of course would have to be put on this (you can only canon update every 6 months or once a year or whatever), but I think this would be a really, really good policy change to make.

Thanks. :B

Also, you should totally unscreen this! BD

Comment box might be the right place for this sort of thing, but-

I'm really hoping that October's events have something else lurking underneath, going beyond a "vague creepy feeling".

I'm normally really excited for the October events in Adstring because we're a survival horror game. We amp things up. We have Pyramid Head as an NPC. But this... is falling really flat with me. :(

Please tell me there's something more than rainbows?

I know that this is out of the current moderator team's hands but I wanted to register my concerns. I am remaining anonymous for ongoing play reasons that will become clear.

I am extremely concerned by the voting system proposed. I understand that we need as much transparency as possible however I think that perhaps the current mod team could have some sort of veto as well. They alone know who problem players have been and that should not be dismissed lightly.

This whole situation has become really out of hand and I think many different people overreacted in many different ways. What is done is done, but a knee-jerk change to a mod team that may not be capable of behaving any better is not going to help.

I do not mind if you unscreen this comment as I think a concern such as this should stand noted.

Hey mods! I know this was brought up with the old mod team, but I seriously think that getting rid of the history/background section would be a beneficial move for the game. In my personal opinion, background sections don't show good writers of characters when they're merely plot summary. Non-personally, most games don't require a written history section/allow linked histories and haven't suffered in terms of quality for it. It's especially redundant when multiple characters apply from the same series to write (generally) the same background information.

In my experience, a history section is at best a slight deterrent from apping and at worst a deal breaker. Many times I have talked to friends about applying here, but they are discouraged by having to write out their character's histories. I know that the rules were modified a bit to only have history sections be about the character's personal relevance to the story, but in the case of main characters or canons with extremely dense plot lines, this can still be an extremely long thing to write for information that can already be found on wikis. As an example, Gau here is a side character in his story, and even skimming the bare bones of his appearances netted about 3 pages/1850 words of history due to the density of his canon. Lately, we have been getting less applicants than our drops, and I think we should eliminate deterrents in the application to attract as many people as possible to our game!

Thank you for your time! and unscreen this, please :vb

Hey mods, I was wondering if the way canon updating is done might possibly be looked into? The way it's set up now according to the rules you can reset them every six months and canon update them once a year. This seems a little strange to me because canon updating is the one that you get to keep all your CR and past memories, yet it's the one that has a longer wait. This comes across like it's encouraged more to reset a character and lose their CR than canon update them. I understand that having no time limit on canon updating can get troublesome and I fully agree with having some time limit, but might I suggest canon updating be allowed once every three months and canon resetting once every six?

Nothing major, I just noticed that Abaddon's name is spelled wrong on her tag in the network comm. It reads Abbadon, should be Abaddon. Thanks! <3
