Is there any general rule, stated or implied, regarding new source materials & spoilers for characters? Specifically, I've been seriously considering writing Jon Snow from A Song of Ice & Fire. However, I'd like to first see how A Dance of Dragons furthers the story and Jon as a character, since I would either apply for him as he is at the conclusion of book 3/middle of book 4, OR at some point determined by book 5.
Book 5 is to be released on July 12th. I'm a fast reader and already know it'll only be two or three days at most before I'm done with it. Buuut I just want to make sure beforehand that it's okay using new material that's only a couple of days old that may carry with it sizable spoilers for character development and/or plot.
(And even if someone else reserves/apps him before 7/12, I'm still interested in the answer!)
