Though your character may be based on a pre-existing world, that character is still one that you have created yourself and is therefore still an OC. As you've already noticed, OCs are not allowed as first characters, but you are welcome to app in your OC after joining the game with a canon character if you find that you enjoy the game and it would be a good fit.
