Comment/Complaints
In light of recent events, it has come to our attention that Adstringendum requires some restructuring. The staff are doing their best to address these issues and adapt for the changing times, the growth of this comm, and the new issues that have come up, but thinking ahead can only account for so much, and the staff's ideas will only please so many.
So to best serve the needs of the comm, and to best address complaints early, we've decided to create this comments/suggestions/complaints post to manage complaints and ideas which players and potential players may have with the community. Think of it as a "How's My Driving" for Adstring as a whole. Topics you might bring up here include (but are not restricted to): application process, mod/staff duties, complaints about mod/staff members (on staff-based issues; character-based complaints still belong in relevent mun's HMD post), event issues, etc. We will be sure to reply to every note, and complaints and suggestions will be reviewed and taken into serious consideration.

Just as an example! I waited six months with Johannes and a new book came out with a plethora of amazing new information and adventures with him, so I decided to canon update -- but when I did, losing the CR with him just utterly destroyed the muse for me. He was a hard character to establish in the first place, and doing that again was nigh impossible.
Again, this is just a suggestion. I know other games (Paradisa, Poly, Siren's Pull, Asgard, etc) allow you to canon update and still retain memories of the game, and I think it might be more friendly for people with changing canons that plan on sticking around long-term. I know Break suffered from this, too, and Lucifer, too. Limitations of course would have to be put on this (you can only canon update every 6 months or once a year or whatever), but I think this would be a really, really good policy change to make.
Thanks. :B
Also, you should totally unscreen this! BD

Canon updating isn't something that should be able to happen regularly w/o consequences but i think if the option was there for once or twice a year without losing all memories it could help those who wanted to canon update due to major changes in their character but felt unable to through fear of losing months or years worth of CR?
if that makes sense :B also idk if this gets screened or not but it can be unscreen if u dont mind that ;A;

uh yeah unscreen this too 8D

It seems kind of like a silly rule/implementation to have required that most no other game has. Unless I'm drastically overseeing something that would make the memory loss make sense or useful, it seems a bit of an arbitrary rule to have.

I'm really hoping that October's events have something else lurking underneath, going beyond a "vague creepy feeling".
I'm normally really excited for the October events in Adstring because we're a survival horror game. We amp things up. We have Pyramid Head as an NPC. But this... is falling really flat with me. :(
Please tell me there's something more than rainbows?

Yes, something is happening at the end of October, and yes, we are doing something for Halloween. And yes, the rainbows and pumpkins do have something to do with it. Also, please keep in mind that while October is usually considered as Halloween month, Halloween doesn't happen until the last day, which means that all that horror could very well bleed into November rather than appearing in October. After all, it gets a bit too predictable if October automatically means horrible events and November means fall/turkey events.
We understand that expectations were not met when the calendar came out, but please, please be patient and trust that we are building up to something, in addition to spacing out mod events and player plots. We don't usually stray from the two events a month, one every other week pattern, so that the events do and stop right before Halloween... Well, ~vague creepy feelings~ are there for a reason as well.
So yeah... the support of your patience, trust and belief would be greatly appreciated! (一。一;;)

(Anonymous) 2013-02-20 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)I am extremely concerned by the voting system proposed. I understand that we need as much transparency as possible however I think that perhaps the current mod team could have some sort of veto as well. They alone know who problem players have been and that should not be dismissed lightly.
This whole situation has become really out of hand and I think many different people overreacted in many different ways. What is done is done, but a knee-jerk change to a mod team that may not be capable of behaving any better is not going to help.
I do not mind if you unscreen this comment as I think a concern such as this should stand noted.

In my experience, a history section is at best a slight deterrent from apping and at worst a deal breaker. Many times I have talked to friends about applying here, but they are discouraged by having to write out their character's histories. I know that the rules were modified a bit to only have history sections be about the character's personal relevance to the story, but in the case of main characters or canons with extremely dense plot lines, this can still be an extremely long thing to write for information that can already be found on wikis. As an example, Gau here is a side character in his story, and even skimming the bare bones of his appearances netted about 3 pages/1850 words of history due to the density of his canon. Lately, we have been getting less applicants than our drops, and I think we should eliminate deterrents in the application to attract as many people as possible to our game!
Thank you for your time! and unscreen this, please :vb

We wanted to let you know that we did discuss your questions. We're going to be announcing soon that we're dropping the canon update wait time to six months, lining up with the reset wait time. While we do understand that this may be frustrating for those with frequently updating canons, we have our reasons for keeping the wait so long. Our reasons include frequent updates being rough on a character's CR in the game and also lessening the impact of arriving and leaving in the game. Also in our little announcement, we're going to better define the canon update price.
Thanks for your patience!
