It's a Trap! ( 11/06 - 11/12 )

Fall is here and it's time to collect food. For some, that means laying out traps. Snares, deadfalls, bear traps, cages, pits starting appearing all over the city, so be careful where you step! But it's not only those that you have to watch out for. Blankets seem to be intent on keeping you in bed, shoes can start growing teeth, cabinet doors, the alleyway outside the house, that one squeaky floorboard in the hallway... You never know when the trap will be sprung!
We're All Mad Here ( 11/20 - 11/26 )
Suggested by [livejournal.com profile] bloodseal_soul

Every night when you sleep, you dream, but is it a dream? You go to sleep, but you wake up somewhere... else. Somewhere else with restraints. With a hospital smell. With your powers warded or not there at all. There are doctors and nurses, and they are surprised to see you awake. Awake, they say, for the first time in quite a while... Adstringendum? No dear, we're sorry, that must be a product of your hallucinations. But what about that one time I-- Now, let's not get too excited... We wouldn't want to trigger another episodic break, now would we?

Hmm. If only Sebby slept.

For characters who don't sleep I think we can tweak it as below, like Siren mentioned. There are always points of mind wandering or slipping. I think it would be even more jarring if you wanted to play it that way.

Oh fuck yes. 8DDD

So would characters asleep at the same time be in the "hospital" at the same time and be able to communicate in the dream? Or would they be in their own little cells or what? :o

From what I understand, they're probably at "home" in their own worlds' equivalent of a mental hospital.

...Why do I think the first event sounds vaguely cute.

[identity profile] kill-joo-ded.livejournal.com 2011-10-31 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
This month, Kamui is going to be eaten by his breakfast.

Hitsugaya is going to play in the snow.

And Killua is going to laugh and post with nothing but, "Sucks, doesn't it?"

Just out of curiosity, how are people thinking of incorporating the second event in-game?

I was thinking it would be interesting to outline what the character is seeing in their dream state, but it's not exactly something that allows for CR since people can only react and interact with the character while they're awake. Definitely, people would share what they've dreamed on the network, but it might be interesting to see what other applications people come up with.

I'd love to work toward something a little more dynamic and creative. Anyone interested in sharing thoughts/plotting?
al_truism: (A softer side of me)

[personal profile] al_truism 2011-10-31 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
I'm definitely going to do it. I'd love to read stuff that others come up with too, it could be really interesting to see where they take it.
angle_on_it: (excited)

[personal profile] angle_on_it 2011-10-31 04:39 am (UTC)(link)
I think there's so much potential to really see some awesome character-driven pieces! It's a credit to the game that people are so willing to come up with interesting plots and really run with concepts like this! :D
al_truism: (And that's how you do it underwater)

[personal profile] al_truism 2011-10-31 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
We have a really talented group of writers here, absolutely. It's gonna be great.

[identity profile] kill-joo-ded.livejournal.com 2011-10-31 04:39 am (UTC)(link)
Thinking of having one or two characters just... not sleep. It's not too creative, but it's another option with a whole new set of problems.

One of mine, this kid here, is going to automatically know it's not real simply because his situation ensures that he would never end up in an asylum.
angle_on_it: (Idea Guy)

[personal profile] angle_on_it 2011-10-31 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
I think not sleeping is a really creative option for people who don't really want to participate, as opposed to just ignoring the event all together!

Honestly, I don't think Sokka will be too easily convinced Adstringendum is all some sort of hallucination considering how much of an impression it's leaving on him. I thought that perhaps he could be convinced by the end of the event, but as soon as he woke up in the morning, he'd know it was just an event, so it kind of nullifies things in a way.

...unless they're supposed to stay asleep the whole week when they're participating in the event. (Come to think of it, it could be interesting if people were more apt to be comatose because then people who resist or aren't evented could angst over their unresponsive, comatose friends.)

[identity profile] kill-joo-ded.livejournal.com 2011-10-31 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
It's certainly one way to go for a character who wants to believe that Adstring is the real deal.

I think the idea is that after a while, you don't know which is the dream and which is waking up, thus the fact that it's an event could be the mind's excuse for it to make the hallucination work. But yeah, after the event was over, it would be iffy because no matter which is real, this is the one you're stuck with.

I guess some people might subconsciously cling to whichever one they deem to be reality, so while some people would not want to sleep, some people would want nothing more than to sleep.

[identity profile] mister-hatter.livejournal.com 2011-10-31 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
These are rockstar events.

... holy shit poor Break.

[personal profile] al_truism 2011-10-31 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
I really, really want ficlets of Break in the asylum.

[identity profile] law-of-reason.livejournal.com 2011-10-31 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
/can't sleep

Maan, I'm not sure where to go with Kurotsuchi for the second event. Like- waking up back in the research department, as though some long-term experiment had gone badly? Or back in the Maggots' Nest and like everything hadn't happened. Because when it comes to asylums, Soul Society kind of sucks.

Not sure what do. D:

Arienette will just be more convinced that Ads is the real-real world that no one's supposed to see, and... wait she doesn't need to sleep how will this work.

[identity profile] wingsandwill.livejournal.com 2011-10-31 05:32 am (UTC)(link)
Cas is going to freak out for the second event and get totally mixed up and not know which is real in the slightest okay it will be glorious. It doesn't help that he goes insane (temporarily) in his future and he knows it, or that he's easily manipulated into believing things. He may snap a bit, though he was doing so well for awhile. 8|

And the first event will just be an exercise in angel claustrophobia especially for him because he can actually get caught in normal traps now too s-sob.

QUESTIONS~ though:

1. For the first event, can there be more exotic traps? Like for instance for angels that are NOT lame mortal people like Cas, could there be holy oil traps? And the like, for other things from other worlds should people need/want them?
2. For the second event, characters who don't/can't sleep, is there a way for them to end up sucked into their own little dreamworld/madhouses?
Edited 2011-10-31 05:33 (UTC)

[identity profile] law-of-reason.livejournal.com 2011-10-31 03:01 pm (UTC)(link)
1) Yeah, there could totally be err, species!specific traps around, for those who'd have less/no problem with mundane traps. Everyone can be inconvenienced! :D

2) There should be a way for this, but I'm having a hard time coming up with a plausible justification... I don't know, would something like thoughts drifting would work? Like getting caught up in their own mind/trancing out, not noticing what's around them- and then suddenly, when they look around themself again, they're somewhere else?
al_truism: (A softer side of me)

[personal profile] al_truism 2011-10-31 03:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I was referred here to answer the second question, but Siren's got a great solution. ♥

[identity profile] law-of-reason.livejournal.com 2011-10-31 03:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, it's just an idea. D: I'm good with whatever lets people participate.

Yep! However the mods/players want to tweak it to make it work.

[identity profile] dogtagcollar.livejournal.com 2011-10-31 06:40 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe we can do a single 'party log' of people who wake up at the asylum? That way, we can avoid a bunch of posts to the network that are not interactable (ie: what Sokka-mun was bringing up with the characters posting about their own experiences with the asylum). Because I want to post mine and I want to read other people's, but having that, plus the evented, in-Ads posts to the network might mean that posts would get pushed back and lost prematurely.

Like this idea a lot.

[identity profile] wingsandwill.livejournal.com 2011-10-31 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Also agreeing with this idea! And it'd be easier for people to comment to each other oocly this way, since unfortunately there'd be no real IC reaction to be had with the madhouse pieces themselves. Plus then people could do multiple if they wanted throughout the week without feeling like they're spamming the comm.

[identity profile] law-of-reason.livejournal.com 2011-11-01 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
That makes a lot of sense. People's journal posts (that would like, allow, interaction) wouldn't get drowned out that way by a series of isolated moments. And everyone can read everyone else's in one place!

A modling can put it up the day event starts? (...Might do that in place of an Animus post that week anyway. Since. It wouldn't make sense for them to announce something that's supposed to be a mind screw anyway...)

[identity profile] holdnovirtue.livejournal.com 2011-11-01 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
I like this idea too!
scarysnakelady: (that good with you?)

Ooo, Nth-ing this idea.

Blankets seem to be intent on keeping you in bed, shoes can start growing teeth, cabinet doors, the alleyway outside the house, that one squeaky floorboard in the hallway... You never know when the trap will be sprung!

.... Beat is not going to appreciate it if his hat decides to start chewing on his head. :|

[identity profile] greatcuppajoe.livejournal.com 2011-10-31 06:23 pm (UTC)(link)
It has the teeth for it and everything!

Hanekoma's gonna have to have his glasses bite him on the nose or something equally embarrassing.

...or get caught in a snare while he's out rabbit hunting. HMM.

[identity profile] redumption.livejournal.com 2011-10-31 06:25 pm (UTC)(link)
It will be uncool, okay. Totally uncool, yo.

...I'm all for Hanekoma's glasses clamping onto his nose and not letting go.

[identity profile] greatcuppajoe.livejournal.com 2011-10-31 06:30 pm (UTC)(link)
He will be harassed unmercifully. >D

...to make up for the fact that he'll be completely unruffled by the mindfuck event. Stupid ridiculously stable Angels.

[identity profile] redumption.livejournal.com 2011-10-31 06:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Sanae, between keeping his hat at bay and other things, Beat will laugh at you.

Until the second event. :| Damnit, Angel-man.

[identity profile] rhymebell.livejournal.com 2011-10-31 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
.....Rhyme's necklace is now going to start dragging her around like a dog might. You stole my idea

[identity profile] redumption.livejournal.com 2011-11-01 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
Ahaha, Beat can offer her the necklace that came with him. He has the pin and the necklace still on him.

[identity profile] rhymebell.livejournal.com 2011-11-01 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
She will give him her hat to wear. So it doesn't chomp on his head.

[identity profile] holdnovirtue.livejournal.com 2011-11-01 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
It would be pretty cool if there were several people in the same Mental Home dream thing. Would make it seem all the more real and mindfucky.

Then they could try to break out of it together xD

[identity profile] fn-rebel.livejournal.com 2011-11-04 06:37 am (UTC)(link)
Jet and Hiten. I know I'm fucking them up the second week with reaction posts.

Doctor Facilier will be in service to er'one else~

OKAY, LATE AS EVER, BUT...

[identity profile] checkoutpandora.livejournal.com 2011-11-15 05:32 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, I'm speaking on behalf of the angel cast, but really this applies to any character who can canonically dreamstalk on their own terms, such as Rhode, for example. As the angels don't sleep, we were toying with the idea of them invading the asylum dreams and how they could interact with that world without breaking it and I came up with the idea of having them assuming the roles of the "doctors" in the asylum- as in, losing complete sense of self once they enter the dream and becoming part of the staff and becoming "locked" in the dream, only able to travel to each dreamer, as opposed to 'waking up.'

Essentially... Well, let me break it down by showing you a scenario. Say Castiel wants to know what's haunting Rei's dreams at night, so he goes into her dream. Castiel would assume the role of a random doctor/therapist telling Rei that everything she thinks is real is fake. This will give her that much needed push to believe that OH GOD MAYBE THE ASYLUM IS REAL, because here is someone she cares about SO MUCH in a different form and the worst part? When she wakes up, Castiel won't be there, because he'll still be locked in the dream so that he can't just snap out of it at any time or wake up and apologize for being a creepy doctor. He won't be confined to just her dream, however- he'll be able to flit to other dreams, doing the same thing.

This will allow us to play PC doctors for everyone, rather than relying on just NPC's and will add a visceral degree of horror, plus it gives the muns who play godmoddy characters a punishment for trying to break the Animus's games. If this is agreed to, we'll even put a permissions and plotting post up closer to the time for the event so people can opt in or out of this plot-within-a-plot.
